My family and I were able to experience an AmaWaterways Christmas market river cruise on the Rhine River a few years ago and it is still one of our most talked-about vacations. My husband and I were a little surprised that we enjoyed the river cruise as much as my parents did. It was the best multi-generational trip we’ve ever had, and we cannot wait to take our own children in a couple of years.
The Christmas markets were a highlight, of course. From Cologne to Strasbourg, and many in between, we were able to see some of the most famous Christmas markets in Europe on our week-long journey. European Christmas markets are my favorite place to buy Christmas gifts for loved ones. Everything is so unique, and walking through the market with a Gluhwein in hand makes for an unforgettable experience.
Aside from that, the river cruise itself was the reason we all want to do the trip again. AmaWaterways went over and above our expectations in making the trip special. We were on board Christmas day and we enjoyed the European tradition of leaving a shoe outside our cabin door for Santa to leave something overnight. Santa himself actually made an appearance onboard! We also enjoyed so many special treats and drinks that were specific to the city and country we were visiting that day. The staff and accommodations were 5 stars across the board and I would recommend anyone, young or not so young, to experience a Christmas market river cruise!
